What is a Blog?
A blog is a page in the Internet, a way to publish on the Web. Originally, the term “blog” referred to a web log, or a page on which people listed links to various websites and shared them with others. The term “link” is short for “hyperlink”, which is a way to connect one webpage with another page. When you click on a link it will redirect you to the linked section or page in the same website or another website. In other words, people would insert a link to another page on the Internet. If the reader clicked on the link, that page or website would open. Over time, people began to use blogs to write personal comments and reflections, and blogs became a form of online journaling. In this way, blogs provide a place for readers to write what they think about what they have read. Ideally, others will read the blog and comment with their reactions to the posted reflections, resulting in a n ongoing conversations. Some people publish news and information on blogs that do not necessarily lend themselves to comments.
People also use blogs to list, or “log,” their favorite blogs or websites of interest. Often a blog will focus on a particular topic or issue. Blogs may contain links to other websites, pictures, lists, videos, or other media content related to the topic. On the Internet, the blog displays the most recent entries first.
Blogs allow a group of people to communicate with each other on one or more specific topics. This format allows individuals to create their own publishing space with information, links, and ideas they want to keep for personal references or to share with others.
